Today was one of those really fine days.
I fussed, I cooked, I cleaned, I picked fresh flowers, then I showered to get ready for company. They arrived, we hugged, chatter was animated, we ate yummy things, drank the iced tea I brewed this morning, and then (because jets don’t wait for those who linger) my lovely company piled in the car and drove off.
It’s scorching hot outside so we remained in the cool of the house. The conversation was easy and all over the place, much like a summer day. When D. arrived she helped herself to one of my sun-warmed cherry tomatoes growing just outside the front door. Alas, M. told on her and we all laughed. Later, as D., M., and R. drove off I helped myself to one of those sun-warmed tomatoes and then, because it’s a free country and I’m in the midst of one of those days, I helped myself to a couple of sun-warmed strawberries also hanging out near the front door.
Yes, it was a fine day.
“Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.” ~ Ashley Smith
don’t you just love popping a warm cherry tomato in your mouth. i remember it from a child.
Sounds like too short a visit to me but lovely all the same to see an old friend, laugh and talk … and sneak a sun ripened tomato!
