I had a special visit on Wednesday. My music teacher. He wanted to ensure I have a new piano teacher lined up and to render encouragement as I move on to a new coach. See how special he is? He also made me promise that should things not work out, to absolutely contact him. Like we always do, we talked a bit about the garden. Then he left a note for me intended to be read once he left. I tried my best not to shed any tears but a few leaked out and I noticed even he was holding back as well. It’s so difficult ending such a fulfilling working relationship.

The last time he was here I had given him a note along with a parting gift. It was a lovely hand made birdseye maple pen that had notes on a musical staff engraved into the wood. The PS in the handwritten note my piano teacher left for me, “Love this pen!!”

“May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently thorugh the world and know it’s beauty all the days of your life.” — Apache blessing for you.

My first attempt at fermented sauerkraut turned out so well, yesterday I put up a jar of kosher dill pickles to ferment. And a jar of pickled eggs. It’s all rather exciting — and easy. Cucumbers bought Saturday morning at the local farmer’s market from Nourish Farm Organics and the garlic from Blue Heron Organics (Parksville). These pickles smell divine and, oh the flavour of that batch of sauerkraut tumbles me all the way back to childhood.

A friend of mine said one of those cucumbers looks like it has eyes. Once you see it, you can’t un-see it!

Tell me, what sort of wonderful encounters/adventures/escapades have you experienced by not being on social media?

{For the second week in a row, I’m posting twice within the week. I can’t say it will become a habit. It’s simply a bit of spontaneity.}

  1. I enjoyed reading about your piano teacher visit. It is so enriching to come together to make music. I have been doing duets with a new friend from England. She is accomplished and pushes me by introducing new duet music to me and by getting that wonderful feeling of intense focus which I don’t always have to employ. Can’t get that by getting on the computer.

  2. your spontaneity took me by surprise, but i knew immediately as i scrolled to the bottom of your current post that i had not seen the lovely hues of pink in your first image. so lovely.

    i’m glad you and your music teacher had opportunity to visit

    i do see the eyes on the cucumber and i must say, what an exceptional photo it is. also the the jar with pickled eggs is just gorgeous !

    both jars of food are too pretty to open and eat. they make for such fine decoration in your kitchen.

    (Wolf stove; am i right? it looks just like mine. why am i not surprised ? : – )

  3. I’ll pass on the pickled eggs if you don’t mind. I have unhappy memories of those 70 years ago.
    But, generally, I like home-pickled goodies, though these days, not having a vegetable patch, I buy what I want.
    I hope your piano lessons go well.
