“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.” wrote Lewis Carroll in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass.
“Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.”
— by Mary Oliver
Snow, at least these vast amounts, are not a common occurrence here on the Pacific coast. Of course, where I lived all my life on the prairies and then up north for a lengthy stint, snow was a natural from late fall to late spring. These images were taken a couple weeks ago so I must report every last flake has since completely disappeared. But, as Mary Oliver states, I am certain it’s reason for blanketing our part of the world was purely to make things pretty. Wouldn’t you agree?
Snow still has the same affect on me as it did when I was a child. I still stick my tongue out to catch the snow; the glittery crystals still look to me like diamonds; I can’t resist making a snow angel; it makes me smile how it sticks to a dog’s nose or horses’ muzzle; and I love how it crunches beneath my boots when it’s really, really cold; but most of all I love how pretty it makes everything appear.
My wish is that you experience something beautiful this week — whatever it is that you find to be beautiful.
it’s been a long time since i’ve seen a heavy snowfall. i love the quietness it brings.
the top image is particularly superb.
Those are beautiful pictures Diane! I love the snow – for a couple of days! 🙂 Amazing the amount of snow that has fallen this winter on the Island!! Plus the amount that has falling in both Abbotsford where my daughter lives and Kelowna where my granddaughter lives. Crazy this winter! Think Nikki was hoping to not get any snow after moving to Abbotsford! How do you remember all those quotes??
