I’m a white mama who is with Christy Oglesby. I cannot understand exactly how she feels, but I am still outraged. Outraged, fed up, and insistent that all mothers — black, white, yellow, brown — deserve to live without fear of their child being murdered by police.
I cannot imagine the fear and horror of living in the USA and being black. This short opinion piece by Christy Oglesby is far more worthwhile than scrolling social media. We need to know and understand what it is to live a life where fear is a part of every day.
Not since RCMP here in Canada murdered a frightened and confused Polish immigrant, Robert Dziekanski have I been so outraged.
I can not get that cry for his Mama from George Floyd out of my mind. His mother was dead and yet, in his desperation, he called out to her.
“Wishing is nice but doing is better. Take action.” —
I did not know about Robert Dziekanski, but yes, we; in our home, have been unsettled in our hearts since we saw George Floyd murdered on the street in plain sight.
Your title brought back the memory of hearing the sobbing of toddlers crying Papa, Papa as they were taken from their parents’ arms and placed in cages by the United States government.
The world seems to have little sympathy and only on a rare occasion does one glimpse empathy anymore. As for America, we view commercials with sad songs playing and photos of stray dogs in cages and people send money, but babies in cages are not receiving the outrage deserved or they wouldn’t still be in cages.
America is a very segregated country. Once those who have entrenched hatred in their hearts have their desired end of the genocide of one group, they will move on to the next group on their list of hate. White Supremacy is coming out of hiding in America and it’s very unsettling and ugly.
