“Keep creating new windows from which to look at your world.” — Don Shapro
Contentment comes in many forms for many people. It’s as elusive as a feral cat, and best not to pursue it. If we keep very still it may come to us. Though only momentarily. Those are the moments we should savour, for they won’t land upon us very often.
Each morning at this time of year I awaken to a glowing band of apricot rising from the horizon. I lay in bed, watching it sift colour as minutes roll by. From the open window to my left, morning’s faint breeze carries the scent of jasmine as if on a magic carpet.
“Almost any garden, if you see it at just the right moment, can be confused with paradise.” Said Henry Mitchell
Within the confines of our yard, trees, shrubs, and flowers are tidy and well kept. Right now the heavenly fragrance from a variety of lilies floats silently around our home and through the windows.
Yet, beyond I find tangles of blackberry, twisted vines of wild morning glory, and a myriad of wild grasses and sedge. Bees, ants, and hummingbirds make their rounds within the jumble. If we were to lift the mat of green, beneath we’d surely find a wider variety of life such as slugs, salamander, unnamed insects, and beneficial garter snakes. Even these wild pockets are a paradise.
“Live close to nature and your spirit will not be easily broken, for you learn something of patience and resilience. You will not grow restless, and you will never feel lonely.” — Ruskin Bond’s wise words
It’s life’s simple things that really feed our contentment.
Today I leave you with wishes for many simple pleasures and a lovely piano tune with Sarper & Fevzi. Enjoy.
such a lovely walk through your garden of thoughts and flowers. from a photographic viewpoint, i’m in awe of the first image. typically a white bloom becomes nothing more than a blob; ruining the entire photograph but in this case, the combination of the pure white bloom with the bright blue bokeh corner has given it a clean, crisp feel. that color combo tends to affect me in that manner. something of a nautical feel to it if you know what i mean.
