“It’s difficult to think anything but pleasant thoughts while eating a homegrown tomato.” said Lewis Grizzard and me.
I made it! Remember the tomato tart I mentioned a couple weeks ago, promising I’d try it. It was worth the little extra effort and was delicious. For mine, all the herbs and the tomatoes were from my own garden, which made it all the more gratifying.
Not that I’ve been baking too much during the pandemic … but. There is something about cakes overladen with fruit that gets, well, my juices flowing.
There are so many lovely locally grown offerings at our farmer’s market so we always take advantage. Last year I made an irresistible plum chutney from the local abundance. My husband devours the plums, like a child tucking into candy. After making this plum Kuchen (above), miraculously it disappeared within 48 hours! 48 hours — that’s nothing. I made this purple plum torte next (below), using local plums of course, and it was gone in less than 24 hours. Highly recommended.
“The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.” Alfred Austin stated that so wisely.
What is growing in your garden, or pots, this year? Tell me about your farmers market.
That plum Kuchen looks delicious!
My farmers market is your farmers market! However, I have not been since the pandemic. I saw the great lines and decided not to. Should I? Is it okay?
We have an abundance of tomatoes, carrots, kale, green beans and basil in our garden. I was inspired by your tomato tart and made it myself. As you say, a bit extra work but so worth it! I will make it one more time this season! Thank you for continuing to inspire me! xo
