Last week was a good week. Not that they aren’t all [good weeks]. A few reasons why:
On a personal note, on separate days we connected with two different couples — personal distancing well in hand — for some much needed tête-à-tête and laughter too.
It’s always a good day when a handwritten letter arrives. A cousin sent me a newsy letter and I had mailed one to a different cousin only a day or two prior. Must have had cousins on my mind!
Oh and did I ever share these stunning photographs with you?
With all the horrific fires going on, it was intriguing to learn how beavers became North America’s best firefighter.
“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” — Ruth Bader Ginsburg. “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.” — also RBG
This week has been a good week:
Orange Shirt Day was inspired by a heart-wrenching true story.
On a personal note, we connected with one of last weeks couples for an adventurous dinner and continued laughter and vibrant conversation.
The smoke from all the fires has cleared up here (heaven help all those affected by the fires).
If you’re having a couple over for a glass of wine, try something one of our friends recently did: instead of a charcuterie board that everyone would normally share from, create a mini-charcuterie board on individual plates (think sliced baguette, a couple cheeses, fig jam, few nuts, olive or two, choice charcuterie — you get the idea).
Tides are shifting for the fall and winter months. Bird song that we only hear during migration entertains us. Cumulous clouds of summer have given way to the brindled grey canopy of late September. Shadows lengthen each day. There is a distinct chill in the morning air. I’ve begun to pull out a comfy sweater or two. Comfort food simmers in my mind.
White bowls are waiting to be filled with fragrant tawny broth. An earthy red wine is being poured.
Wishing you meaningful connections and peaceful pockets of late September. With those thoughts I offer your Soundtrack for today: Inner Peace by Beautiful Chorus.
a wonderful and yummy collection, but i absolutely love the last one of steaming soup. it’s frame-worthy. it would look terrific hanging in a kitchen or dining room.
This is a great post and thank you for sharing so much with us. First of all, how close were you to the (Oregon?) fires, please? I cannot even imagine that sort of fear and with my lungs I cannot imagine trying to breathe in those conditions either. I especially love your idea for individual charcuteries which I will try one day. Here in Ontario it is already a bit co0l most days for outdoor gatherings (‘though not today as it happens) and my medical team has forbidden me to have anyone inside our home just yet, but the first chance I get I will be copying you. Cheers with the wine – virtual glass clink.
