We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men. attributed to Herman Melville (and in 2020 I’m sure Mr. Melville would say, “with our fellow men and women.”

Beauty should never be only about pretty flowers and shallow depth of field. That’s a narrow perspective — on photography, and life.
When I saw this couple two weeks ago, I saw red, and I saw love. This elderly couple helping one another. One so frail; the other so unsteady. Coping and leaning on one another during the pandemic. This is beautiful. (previously posted at Instagram)

With this photography project, although I’m posting frequently on Instagram, it’s turning out there are some loose themes occurring. Today, as you can see, I’m sharing a gallery of miscellaneous images of people around town. And, when I use the term “around town,” I’m referring primarily to the village of Qualicum Beach where I live and the town of Parksville which sits back-to-back to the village. Both are my home.

I’ve been gleefully distracted lately yet my creativity hasn’t taken a hit — it may, in fact, have been amplified by recent life events. I’ll share with you in a future post. In the meantime my lovelies, wishing you a week in which you make special connections with those closest to you.

  1. what a wonderful variety of people on the street. i feel like i’ve visited your town. i especially like the worker behind the fence.

  2. Great series of candid captures to document everyday life. Each photo tells a story which we interpret in many different ways.
