On the first of May, the morning light holds me to the kitchen window before I decide to head out onto the wet grass to take this photo.
My kitchen table holds a small bouquet of flowers that have brightened each of my days in the past week. Tomorrow is my oldest granddaughter’s birthday. I always think of the day she was born and my excitement to get to the city as soon as possible to see her.
The peonies I planted last year are all reaching for those blue skies. The showy clematis out front has been blooming all week and the others in back will be opening soon. The rhododendrons have been taking turns showing off.
Earlier today these simple delights had me singing and dancing to a Marty Robbins tune.
The wild alders have popped open this week and their intoxicatingly sweet fragrance has carried me back to fond memories of springs of my youth in Alberta. It’s a blessing how scents cause all kinds of memories to burst open. What do you enjoy most about this time of year?
May this first week of May bring you sunshine in your heart and the fragrance of spring. And, don’t forget that I appreciate each of you. — Diane

well, i was taken with the gorgeous dappled light falling across your garden until i saw Heidi and she stole my heart away
I think the best gardening advice I was ever given was: “Pay attention.” And looking at these images and your notes on them, I think that paying attention is what you do in so many ways!
Great use of backlighting on these morning shots that make everything radiate! I am surprised by how early you get blooms, particularly with the clematis. Ours are climbing, but don’t reach their peak until June. Cute photos of Heidi as well.
Lovely, Diane. What I enjoy most this time of year is seeing all the new life emerge. I “check on the buds” daily lol!
