As I’ve likely mentioned, I’ve purchased a perfect-for-me photography related workshop. It’s not one of those ho-hum, how to take photos, how to compose, how to blah blah blah. No, this one is all about what productive things to do with all the photos a person has already taken. And also how to best select and present those photos to give them a life beyond the hard drive. There is, of course, much more to it, but that’s the Coles Notes synopsis.
This course, Beyond the Shutter, is by Canadian photographer David duChemin. I’ve been learning so much and I’ve intentionally been taking the lessons very slowly and methodically so I can really work on each lesson and take it all in before moving to the next stage. It’s a great way to learn.
I discovered an artist/photographer who is doing wonderful handmade ‘books’ using her photography. It’s the handmade aspect that really makes these so special.
This past week I’ve spent an amazing amount of time out in my yard. Planning; transplanting; adding shrubs, perennials, and a few annuals; photographing; and a whole lot of daydreaming. The weather is warming, the wind is cool, and the birds chatter keeps me company.
Although I’m still unable to share online any of the photos I take with my film camera, it doesn’t stop me from picking one of the cameras up and getting all excited at how wonderful it feels using my old analog beasts. Yes I have a few of them and right now I have film in two of them. It’s such a good feeling even holding a film camera, but they work differently — simpler and easier, and they sound different, and they give me a thrill much like a muscle car provides thrills to car buffs.
Oh and Happy Victoria Day weekend to all my fellow Canadians. Our flag is proudly flying in honour of this day.
So I’ve dabbled, wandered, read, learned, listened, photographed, played, cooked, planted, re-planted, and even did some daydreaming. It’s been a very fine week.
Tell me one (or many) good things you experienced this past week.
Hi Diane! I’m a fellow blogger and Canadian (though I have lived in Australia most of my life!)
I found you from Pip Lincolne’s blog and wanted to subscribe to yours — hence the comment!
Wishing you well! 🙂
our gardens are growing like a jungle with the southern heat. finally, after 5 years of remodeling the outdoor property is taking on the look i envisioned at the time of purchase.
again, love seeing your garden here and on YouTube
What a wonderful course! How-to courses (for anything) are a dime a dozen, but a What now? course sounds wonderful!
I’m thankful that my surgery was successful and that I’m now home surrounded by familiar things and people!
I celebrated a birthday. Not a ‘big’ birthday, but these days all birthdays are big. A lovely dinner out on a patio with my daughter. The next day, lunch and cake at my brother’s house to celebrate his birthday. So, there’s been lots of connection and cake. Lovely!
Beautiful photo collage showcasing your week! You definitely have yourself engrossed in some productive course material. And what a great idea for these accordion books. We had a very productive garage sale Sunday. We’re getting the house thinned out before the move.
