Recently a lovely internet friend and photographer wrote something on her blog that I one hundred percent relate to because what she said parallels how I use this space as well. Donna wrote, “This isn’t a portfolio of perfect images or a gallery of my best work. Instead, it is a record of my experiments and efforts.” When I read that, I couldn’t help but exclaim out loud, “Yes, that’s me too!”
And believe me, I am constantly experimenting. In fact, one of the significant up-sides of doing the [what may seem mundane] 30-day photo challenge has been that I’ve been prodded into experimenting in some areas in which I am very reluctant. Case in point: long exposures, self portraits (ack!), and photographing strangers. I’ve learned that I certainly need more experience with those particular areas but I’m not entirely half bad when I give it an honest try. Though, like my learning to play piano, my long exposures need significant more practice.

{Above} self portrait; translucent. {Below} long exposure; icm. And self portrait below that.
I did one set in colour and one set in monochrome, completely different images for each.
All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.

good thoughts and nicely put together
Hey Eric, I loved your idea so much, I went in and changed it! Great idea — thanks. D.
I really love the photos you chose for the colour gallery in your post, but had some ideas about presentation… I was just thinking that your selfie in the orange sweater and the gummies would make a perfect diptych. On a separate row, the two lavender abstracts would make for a lovely diptych. Then, you sign off with the selfie at the end.
Just a thought! (This is my Monday morning brain talking here—please excuse me if I’m out of place!)
I feel like we’re kids, playing at recess! I love the sweet surprises in this collection of photos- those gummy bears!
The ‘translucent’ shot of the gummi bears in the glass made me smile. I love your experiments!
Loved this Diane and thank you! “This isn’t a portfolio of perfect images or a gallery of my best work” I feel the same way about what I am doing as well. I love your 30-day photo challenge. You’ve taken some wonderful shots (particularly the gummy bears…yum!)
A southpaw, too? I guess we’re the only ones in our right minds. 🙂
